A new Land Vehicular BGAN has arrived: the Wideye Safari!

With one of the smallest and lightest vehicular BGAN antennas in the market (252 x 120 mm and 1.9 Kg), the Safari terminal has been designed for the most demanding environments.  The complete system consists of three fully integrated units – an IP 44 rated transceiver unit with built-in Wi-Fi, an IP 66 rated handset and an IP 56 rated roof mounted antenna unit.

An extensive free upgrade for Thrane & Thrane’s flagship vehicular BGAN terminal EXPLORER 727 was made available for download at www.thrane.com on 5th September 2011. The upgrade transforms EXPLORER 727, already the leading on-the-move BGAN terminal, by adding the unique capability to utilise Inmarsat’s premium IP streaming service, BGAN X-Stream, when stationary.

The software upgrade will be implemented on all new EXPLORER 727 terminals in addition to the free download for existing terminals. After following the simple upgrade installation, EXPLORER 727 effectively becomes a two-in-one terminal, able to offer BGAN X-Stream whilst stationary.

When on-the-move the EXPLORER 727 provides the best, most reliable data and voice functionality in its class, even at speeds up to 200 km/h and on any terrain. With the upgrade in place though, the EXPLORER 727 is capable of operating like an EXPLORER 700 terminal when the vehicle is not moving, enabling broadcasters to stream live coverage at data rates from a minimum of 384kbps from anywhere in the world.

IEC Telecom signs a distribution agreement with Globalstar 

IEC Telecom signed an authorized distribution agreement with Globalstar in April 2011.  IEC Telecom will act as the National Distributor for Globalstar’s suite of duplex products to resellers, retailers and consumers within the French Mainland Territory.

As part of the service agreement, IEC Telecom rolls out Globalstar’s current and future voice/data/tracking services within France. IEC Telecom provides Globalstar services to maritime (commercial, fishing, leisure and yachting) and enterprise customers such as UN/NGOs, oil and gas and other multinational companies or individuals, via their established re-seller channel.

The French Department of Maritime Fishing and Aquaculture (DPMA) has certified the solution brought by SODENA – VIZADA for the LogBook offering. IEC TELECOM is ready to market this offer to its national distribution network.

This turn-key solution offers high-speed Internet on board and allows fishing vessels to conform to new European legislation promoting sustainable fishing, at a competitive price.

It includes:

- An Inmarsat FleetBroadband Sailor T&T terminal (FBB 150 or 250), with a two-year guarantee
- Turbo Catch & TurboCom software (encryption and transmission)
- Free ERS communications (1.5 MB/month) for 3 years

Fishing boats will also have access to the following services:
- Email, high-speed satellite browsing, SMS on board
- Simultaneous voice and data communications

Fishing vessels measuring longer than 24 meters are required to record and send daily activity reports electronically to fishing authorities. Fishing vessels over 15 meters will also be required to comply with these legislations as of July 1, 2011.
